Through her paintings, she seeks to honor the quiet beauty of the natural world and the nuanced moments of daily life, using realism as a foundation for deeper emotional and visual resonance. Her work celebrates the harmony between technical skill and expressive perception, inviting viewers to engage with both surface beauty and subtle atmosphere. She focuses on how light, color, and movement interact to reveal the character of a subject, whether it's sweeping countryside vistas or an intimate bouquet. Karen originally studied illustration and graphic design in Philadelphia, but was not satisfied with the commercial aspect of the work. After years of making home and family the priority, Karen then rededicated herself to pursuing fine art once again and completed an intensive 4-year drawing and painting program at Carlin Academy of Art, a traditional atelier-style school in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. While creating her own work, Karen also discovered her love for teaching and opened and operated Willowdale Art Academy for 12 years. Now a full-time resident of Carmel, California, Karen is finding the rich beauty of the central coast to be her constant inspiration. In Karen's words, “I look forward to spending the rest of my life creating work celebrating the natural wonders that surround me here along the California coastline.
