Dima Alekseyev (b. 1963, Moscow) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice interrogates the intersection of cultural memory, social architecture, and the human condition. Formally trained in textile design at the Moscow State University of Design and Technology, Alekseyev first gained prominence as a visionary production designer at Mosfilm, the oldest film production studio in Russia. Alekseyev was the youngest production designer in the studio’s history.Alekseyev’s work is characterized by its scale and its ability to bridge the gap between theatrical artifice and contemporary social commentary. His installations frequently examine the “dependence of human behavior on global social processes,” utilizing space and materiality to explore how historical legacies shape contemporary identity. Since relocating to the United States in 2016, his practice has evolved to include monumental public art commissions that engage with the American landscape while maintaining a dialogue with his signature Eastern European avant-garde aesthetics.Alekseyev has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions at premier institutions, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow; the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA); and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow. His work is held in significant private and public collections internationally. The artist works and lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
