Martín Pelenur (b. 1977, Montevideo, Uruguay) is a visual artist and cultural producer based in La Barra, Punta del Este. His practice explores painting as a system of thought and experimentation, where materials, processes, and repetition play a central role in the development of each work.Working primarily with paint and synthetic mediums, Pelenur investigates the chemical reactions and physical interactions between materials, allowing intricate lines, grids, and geometric structures to emerge organically on the surface. Through this process-driven approach, his works balance control and chance, revealing complex visual patterns that reflect the fragile and layered nature of human thought.Since the late 1990s, Pelenur has developed an extensive exhibition history across Latin America, the United States, and Europe. His work has been presented in institutions and galleries including the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires, Museo Figari in Montevideo, Art Nexus Foundation in Bogotá, Zielinsky Gallery in Barcelona, and Artemisa Gallery in New York.In addition to his studio practice, Pelenur is the founder and director of La Pecera, an independent artist-run space established in 2013 in La Barra, dedicated to promoting contemporary visual arts in Uruguay. He has received several awards and grants, including the Paul Cézanne Prize from the French Alliance in Montevideo, the FEFCA Grant from the Uruguayan Ministry of Culture and Education, and the Goethe-Institut scholarship in Berlin.Pelenur currently lives and works in La Barra, Maldonado, Uruguay.
