Anthony Brown’s early years were spent in Michigan and Pennsylvania. His father was aprofessor of foreign languages and Anthony loved to accompany him to Mexico and CentralAmerica. During his teen years while living in Philadelphia, he hitchhiked to Woodstock and TheWest Coast. As Bob Dylan wrote, “For the times, “They are a-changin.” In college, Anthonystudied at Syracuse University in New York and Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. In 1980, The West was calling him to the land of vast blue skies, billowing clouds, brilliant light, and rough terrain. Anthony discovered a growing, supportive art scene in Abilene,Texas where he settled. He and several artists started The Artist League which is now namedThe Center for Contemporary Arts. He continues to be an active member and maintains an artstudio upstairs.Anthony frequently travels the Mountain West, usually shooting hundreds of photos. Hepaints mainly from these photos, cutting them up and collaging them into compositions for hismixed media paintings. He can’t get enough of the light, the color, the dramatic scenery, and thevast story of The West!Anthony is actively involved in Texas art festivals, events, art shows, art galleries, and artgroups. He has been represented by galleries in Montana, New Mexico and Texas. He isespecially grateful for the myriad of individuals, corporations and businesses that buy andcollect his work.
