Margaret has designed a highly effectivecomposition that guides the eye throughout the scene thanks to subtle value shifts andthe placement of shapes. The brushwork is impeccable; you can feel the intensity andmovement of the dark storm clouds as they recede. The use of color creates a strongmood from the threatening storm to the now calm, grazing sheep who’ve returned totheir dinner now that the rain has passes. The detail I’m most drawn to is the shadow onthe sheep—the use of color is perfectly executed. This painting is an example of whatan artist with highly technical skills can accomplish.
