Artist Description “Winds of Change” depicts a sky divided in two, with a storm behind you reflected in the mirror, in stark contrast to the sunrise ahead. When I first heard the theme of the show, the idea came to me almost instantly, and I could clearly picture the scene in my mind. Living in Oklahoma for my whole life, I’ve witnessed similar skies countless times, where the weather can shift dramatically in a matter of moments. Sometimes, even splitting the sky into two, as represented in this painting. As I developed the piece further, it also began to reflect a deeper personal meaning for me. Through life’s storms and seasons of hardship, the painting came to embody the winds of change, guiding me towards a new sunrise I have long been waiting for. Judges ' Comments-Best of Show (1st Place)Winds of Change / London Priest/oilThough not the most technically rendered piece in the show, it is, to me, the piece thatmost interestingly and immediately captures the theme of Wait 5 Minutes. The storyLondon tells is apparent from first glance. The contrast of the storm in the rearviewmirror with bright, clearer skies ahead demonstrated an immediacy of time thatconnected with me. The color is clean and saturated, and the thoughtfulness in thedetail (the subtle shadow on the interior door of the car, the placement of clouds, theheadlights in the mirror) adds interesting elements. I want to see more work from Londonand especially how the work continues to grow in the coming years.
