Gabrielle Torres’ oeuvre interrogates the interplay between materiality and meaning. Her artistic practice endeavors to dismantle compartmentalization, dissolving the boundaries of conventional human understanding. Materiality serves as both the foundation and, at times, the focal point of her work, prompting viewers to engage in introspective questioning and contemplation. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Torres currently resides in Savannah, GA. She is a recent graduate of the MFA program in painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Though Philadelphia marks her birthplace, Torres was raised in Sumter, SC, and pursued her undergraduate studies in Visual Arts at Lander University. She now imparts her knowledge as an instructor at the Savannah College of Art and Design, all while advancing her career as a professional artist. Torres’ work has been exhibited in California, Chicago, and Miami. She will soon present a solo exhibition in Atlanta at 2424 Gallery in Savannah, GA. Throughout her emerging career, her work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including the recent "Wilton Street Rhythm" at SHE/THEY Gallery in Santa Ana, California. Torres had the privilege of working alongside the esteemed artist Suzanne Jackson, from whom she drew significant inspiration. At present, Torres is committed to leveraging her artistic platform to foster dialogue and utilizes materiality as the principal conduit for her creative expression.
