Oscar Droege, a renowned printmaker and painter, was born in Hamburg, Germany, on January 10, 1898. His parents relocated the family to the picturesque town of Müritz in 1905. Nestled on the largest lake in Germany, Müritz provided the artist with a constant source of inspiration, and he embraced water travel throughout his life. On June 20, 1940, Droege was conscripted into the German military and served until the end of World War II in 1948, when he was liberated from Russian captivity. Droege resumed his artistic pursuits with watercolors and, in 1962, inherited a mansion in Hamburg, where he resided until his passing on October 8, 1983.
