Ishita Banerjee is a contemporary Cubist and abstract expressionist artist based in Montreal, Quebec, known for her vibrant compositions that merge geometric structure with emotion and cultural memory. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Delhi and later completed a Master of Fine Arts, further shaping her distinctive artistic visual language. Drawing on her South Asian Heritage and mid-century modern aesthetics, she constructs abstract compositions in which fragmented forms and bright colour palettes coexist. Human faces and recurring eyes emerge within these structured planes, acting as emotional anchors that evoke presence, observation, and introspection, encouraging the spectator to navigate shifting perspectives, only to realise the work is quietly observing them in return. Ultimately, her practice examines how identity, memory, and emotion inhabit both physical and psychological space, guiding the viewer's eye across the canvas and creating moments of tension, pause, and discovery. Her work is widely collected and internationally exhibited, with features in major media such as The New York Times, BBC and CBC, while her evolving practice continues to expand across diverse platforms.
