Sophia Torres is a sculptor and potter, known in the artist community as T.C. Goat. Her ceramic pieces are what she refers to as "utilitarian monsters", blending her love for the ceramic process and love for the misunderstood and strange. She is also a doll/soft sculpture maker, using mixed media to create creatures unknown to this world. Her work is a commentary on her belief that all objects, even inanimate, have a type of sentience, and if these objects had anthropomorphic features, she sculpts what she believes they might look like. Sophia believes her work has a spirit imbued upon the piece from its conception, and after its purchase, this spirit continues to grow and mature as the piece is used daily by its new care taker. As anyone who has ever had a favorite mug, cup, or toy before can attest, the relationship that is built through the memories and adventures one has undertaken with this object makes it all the more valuable. Art does not stop at the artist, but lives on through the appreciator. All of her work is inspired by life and it's moments, both big and small. Childhood memories can be found lingering in every monster and creation, as she molds and manipulates her media to create faces both nostalgic and new.
