Tatiana Mesquitela is a self-taught painter born in Rio de Janeiro whose work is rooted in the dense, saturated world of Brazilian nature. Working primarily in oil paint, her canvases explore the vegetal landscape as both subject and formal proposition -- a terrain of layered color, organic form, and chromatic intensity drawn from the great colorists of modern Brazilian painting. Her practice is driven by an ongoing investigation into the imaginary, expanded landscapes, and the expressive possibilities of color itself. The work is lush without being decorative, precise without being illustrative, operating in the space between close observation and full abstraction.Mesquitela began her artistic production in late 2019 in Lisbon, where she developed her studio practice before returning to her hometown. Her first group exhibition, Le Carrousel, took place in the Estrela district of Lisbon in 2020, curated by David Reis. In 2024 she completed the course Nuances of the Gaze with Luiz Pizarro at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro. In 2025 she participated in Expansion of Space, curated by Maurício Lima, in Rio de Janeiro. She is represented by DOMO and Calada Cem in Lisbon, Black Tower Gallery in Miami, and Galeria Clima in Rio de Janeiro. She lives and works in Rio de Janeiro.
