Rudi Bloss is a contemporary painter and animation artist whose career spans five decades of visual storytelling. His paintings carry the muscle memory of animation — shape, color, rhythm — filtered through Bauhaus geometry and something quieter: a swimmer’s relationship with water. Meditative. Elemental. Exactly what happens when a storyteller finally tells his own story. Bloss spent thirty-five years as a storyboard artist with credits at Walt Disney Television Studios and Mercury Filmworks—and on films including Shrek 2 and The Lion Guard—giving form to other people’s narratives. His paintings are the first ones that are entirely his own.Influenced by the Bauhaus movement and the fractured planes of Cubism, his work moves between two worlds: water—swimming pools, sea creatures, the particular light that lives just below a surface—and the clean geometry of Palm Springs. For Bloss, both are the same practice. Life, meditation, and play rendered in pigment. Work by Rudi Bloss is available through Illumine Gallery. Please inquire for commissions and shipping.
