Zachary Keeting (b. 1973, Germany) builds his paintings from procedures that don't speak to each other — blind contour drawing from the observed world, and oil paint improvised freely on top of it. He lives and works in Connecticut. Keeting received his BFA from Alfred University in 1995 and his MFA from Boston University in 1998. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and supported by residencies at Yaddo, The Millay Colony, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Santa Fe Art Institute. He teaches painting at the Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven. In 2010, he co-founded Gorky's Granddaughter, an ongoing documentary project, with Christopher Joy. Keeting also records and releases music, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians.
