Whether painting en plein air or from my photos of favorite Michigan landscapes, I enjoy creating scenes that capture the beauty of the moment - the vibrant color and the play of light and shadow that invite the viewer in. Each landscape poses a creative puzzle to solve - how best to capture the view, the delight, and sometimes, the sense of "awe." Painting is a process. The satisfaction rests on the enjoyment of the creative response to the scene. Kathleen grew up in Grand Rapids. She has studied with many workshop instructors in her area. She participates in plein air groups, enjoying the quick responsiveness of using pastels in the changing light. Kathleen worked over forty years in education, then retiring to work fulltime on art. As a child, her love of books, children, and art led an early wish to be a teacher or children's book illustrator. Outside art, she is an avid reader, gardener, and volunteers at the Children's Hospital.
