Carvers Collective — Artist StatementThe Carvers Collective brings together a group of artists working in wood through shared process and dialogue. While each member maintains a distinct approach to carving, the collective emphasizes exchange, learning, and the development of a common visual language. In this collaborative work, each artist contributes an individual panel. Differences in material, texture, and carving style remain visible, allowing each section to stand on its own. At the same time, sweeping carved lines move across the surface, linking one panel to the next. These lines are not imposed as a single gesture. Instead, they are extended and interpreted by each artist in turn, creating a continuous movement that evolves across the piece. The result is a work that holds both independence and connection, where variation becomes part of a shared structure. Rooted in a regional tradition of woodcarving and shaped by the legacy of Leroy Setziol, the collective continues to explore how carving can function as both an individual practice and a collaborative form. *The Carvers Collective members include, in alphabetical order: Paul Dakopolos, Jacqueline Ehlis, Ian Gelbrich, Josh Partee, Edward Running, Brian Shotzbarger, Whit Vogel, and Shaina Zeiger
