Alejo Cañer is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves fluidly across sculpture, drawing, collage, video, installation, and performance. Trained at the Academy of Performing Arts in Santa Clara, Cañer constructs layered visual worlds that link historical trauma and fiction. His work interrogates queer identity, urban eroticism, propaganda, and pop culture, examining how shifting political and cultural contexts shape the reception of art. Cañer’s work was featured in the 15th Havana Biennial, where his piece Fiestas Populares received the “Post-It” Prize from the Royal Norwegian Embassy. In 2026, he was named laureate in drawing and printmaking by the Fundación Bernard Grau in Paris, marking him as one of the most compelling emerging voices in Cuban art.
