Statement: Rachel Hellerich’s paintings use a combination of pattern and hard-edge abstraction to create places that exist on both a distant and magnified plane. In her studio practice she chooses specific color combinations to guide each painting into movement, enabling the geometric planes to undulate and bend. Often there is a grid foundation that is expanded upon where forms evolve into waves, window passages, rock faces, and architectural structures. Bio: Rachel Hellerich is a visual artist and museum preparator based in Milford, Connecticut. She received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University in 2003. Following her interest in a museum career from being a student at SAIC, she has worked as a museum preparator at the Yale Center for British Art since 2007. In addition to preparation, she has worked in the capacity of frame conservation, and curated a furniture exhibition entitled, Furniture at the Yale Center for British Art: A Selection, 2021-22. Her studio practice has been shaped by her experiences working in the museum, finding inspiration in its architecture and vast art collection. Her work has been featured in Artdose Magazine, AEQAI, Connecticut Art Review and Gorky’s Granddaughter. Her paintings are represented in numerous private collections across the United States, Europe and Australia. She has exhibited widely in the New York region, most recently at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum Art, The Painting Center, Ortega y Gasset Projects, as well as George Billis Gallery.
