My work speaks to the curiosity I have about the world and how we relate to it as a modern society. As a sculptor I utilize light and shadow, create movement, and replicate sound using found or salvaged items. By re-purposing the natural and manufactured materials I collect I am able to bring pieces of the environment into my site-specific work. The fluctuation of our surroundings and the cycle of decay and development is often a source of my subject matter as well as the medium I use. Taking common objects or trash and recontextualizing them as sculpture engages people as they contemplate what they are looking at and how it makes them feel. There is often a sense of playfulness to the work, but the purpose of capturing people's attention is for these discarded objects to be held in space and considered for more than a fleeting moment. In a society that is rapidly consuming, it is a reminder to stop for a moment and think about how we influence our surroundings and the importance of our relationship with nature.
