Paul Cunningham is a Pacific Northwest glass artist whose career spans more than three decades of innovation, collaboration, and craftsmanship. He began working with glass in 1986 at The Glass Eye in Seattle, where he developed a strong technical foundation through production work before joining the studio of renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly as a lead gaffer. Over the years, Cunningham maintained an ongoing collaborative relationship with Chihuly while also working closely with Benjamin Moore of BMI Studios. His artistic development was shaped through study at both the Pilchuck Glass School and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, where he learned from influential artists including Lino Tagliapietra, Dan Dailey, Dante Marioni, Preston Singletary, and Robbie Miller. These experiences helped him cultivate a broad range of technical skills and a distinctive artistic voice rooted in the traditions of contemporary studio glass. From 2002 to 2008, Cunningham operated Cunningham Glass, a collaborative hot shop in the Seattle area that provided shared studio access and resources for artists throughout the Northwest. In addition to creating and exhibiting his own work across the United States, he has taught glass techniques and conceptual design throughout the U.S., Asia, and Europe.Cunningham’s work reflects decades of technical mastery, collaboration, and dedication to the evolving tradition of American studio glass.
