Maciej Habrat is a Polish glass artist known for his striking sculptural works created through fusing techniques. Born in Krosno, Poland in 1971, Habrat was introduced to the world of glassmaking at an early age through his father, a professional glassblower. Growing up surrounded by the traditions and craftsmanship of the region’s renowned glass industry, he developed a deep fascination with the material and the artistic possibilities it offered. He began his formal artistic training in 1986 at the Art High School in Miejsce Piastowe before continuing his studies at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, where he focused on ceramics and glass. During this time, he refined both his technical skill and artistic vision, frequently returning to Krosno to work hands-on in local glassworks. His graduate thesis, created in the challenging Graal glass technique under the guidance of Professor Zbigniew Horbowy, reflected both technical mastery and a strong personal aesthetic. After completing his studies, Habrat collaborated with prominent Polish glassworks and designed functional glassware before founding Glass Studio Habrat in 1997. Since then, he has dedicated himself to creating artistic glass objects, including sculptures, hanging forms, decorative works, and one-of-a-kind contemporary pieces. His work is recognized for its fluid forms, luminous color, and distinctive visual language, and has been exhibited internationally, including at the Corning Museum of Glass.
