Zahra Martinez is a visual artist based in Houston, TX who earned a BFA in Studio Art from TheUniversity of Texas at Austin. Raised in Puerto Rico, Zahra draws inspiration from the ocean, sand, rocks,plants, and soil that surrounded her growing up, incorporating these natural elements and personalexperiences into her artistic practice. Her work explores themes of longing, grief, and self-identitythrough printmaking and papermaking. Zahra is developing her book arts business on Etsy whileparticipating in public craft shows and developing her art practice at Red Bird Press in Houston. Zahrawill soon complete work-study programs at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and Penland School ofCraft. Her recent experience includes working as a studio apprentice for Hannah Spector (2025) andserving as a Risograph Fellow (2023–2025). She also interned at Robert Blackburn PrintmakingWorkshop (2024) and co-curated Retracing the Rubicon at the Visual Arts Center (2024). Zahra hasexhibited in group exhibitions at ICOSA Collective (2023, 2024) for Advanced Printmaking classes, aswell as student-led exhibitions at The University of Texas at Austin including Superstitious (2023) andPrint Extravaganza (2023). She also participated in Printmaking Open Studios at Parsons School ofDesign (2022).
