Brendan McCormick's artwork is characterised by his unique perspective on the subtle beauties of the everyday. His use of found objects in creating his art celebrates not just the form and visual qualities of the objects themselves, but the context and history that is represented by each item. His past works have included collections of bottle tops from different global locations and fragments of shredded tyres from a Dubai roadside. These works represent, as Brendan puts it, an "anthropological study of a period of time linked to a location and daily habits." He reworks or presents each object into his vision without compromising its original form, letting each item speak for itself. Brendan's Edinburgh series is a tribute to the layers of history that make up the city and its centuries of inhabitants. Salvaging gravestones which would otherwise have been landfilled, he meticulously crafts smooth, tactile sculptures from the marble, creating seamless forms and surfaces that combine a sensation of the future with fragments of Edinburgh's past. Each piece includes detailed provenance, such as the original location and, where possible, the year of installation; a small piece of the city's rich history in a modern art form that offers a truly distinctive collectable.
