Michael Scoggins (American, b.1973) is a Contemporary artist often working in drawing on lined paper, visibly torn from spiral-bound notebooks and crumpled. Frequently depicting icons of American pop culture, such as superheroes or cartoon mascots, Scoggins'' drawings use an aesthetic associated with childhood. More recently, the artist has begun to employ chalkboard in his work, following a commission from the Bass Museum in 2014. Scoggins studied studio art and political science at Mary Washington College, and later received his MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Freight+Volume, Diana Lowenstein Fine Arts, Hilger Contemporary, Saltworks Gallery, and Galerie Jeanroch Dard, among others.
