Luis SottilLuis Sottil is an artist born and raised in Tampico, Mexico, where the beauty and quiet wisdom of nature find their voice. Deeply inspired by the biodiversity of his homeland, he creates paintings that express the emotional essence of flora and fauna with aesthetic and evocative richness. Forty years ago, Sottil developed an innovative artistic process he calls Naturalismo, a distinctive method designed not to replicate nature's appearance, but to awaken the emotional resonance it inspires. His work is a lyrical homage to life that has resonated across cultures around the world. Driven by a mission to strengthen humanity's emotional connection with nature, Sottil immerses himself in the wild, studying each subject through photography, sketches, and natural pigments gathered from their environments. From cochineal indigo to beetroot purples and achiote oranges, he draws nature's own palette directly into his work. By enlarging the eyes of his subjects, he reveals what he describes as the voice of their soul, inviting viewers to reflect on the instinctive virtues found in the natural world: unconditional love, respect, inclusion, justice, and loyalty. In recognition of his cultural, artistic, and humanitarian contributions, Sottil received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Claustro Mundial Universitario in 2019, conferred during the Seventh Global Conference for World Peace. More than art, his Naturalismo is a revitalizing force that restores wonder, awakens the senses, and reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect and celebrate the living world.
