ARTIST'S STATEMENT In this new body of work by Gregg Reynolds Conly, rectangular bands of color stretch horizontally across his canvases. Through complex interactions of color, Gregg seeks to communicate emotions and moods that the logical mind can not always translate into words. He specifically works in oil rather than acrylic for the density of color. And with each coat of oil paint, the surface becomes deeper and richer. With a background in interior design, Gregg is interested in how his work reacts to a room. He writes, "The paintings work in a confined area and are meant to be viewed up close..to ignite that exhilarating visual dialogue between the surface of the painting and the other surrounding color forms and patterns in the room. ABOUT Gregg Reynolds Conly (b. Allentown, Pennsylvania) received a BS from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science in 2000, concentrating on Weaving and Print Design. Since then, he has worked as a professional carpet designer for private residencies, institutions and luxury hotels. Gregg is based in Los Angeles, CA.
