Natalia Bak is a contemporary Ukrainian artist, born in 1999 in the Ternopil region of Ukraine, currently living and working in Poland. She graduated from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting (2017–2022). She currently works as a Lecturer in Scenography at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and as a Plastic Arts Specialist at the H. Ch. Andersen Theatre in Lublin. Bak has participated in numerous artistic and theatrical projects for both children and adults, leading visual arts workshops and developing creative education programs. She also conducts painting workshops for patients at the Psychosomatic Health Counseling Center, using artistic practice as a tool for self-expression and personal development. Her public mural created during the Open Art. Tytonie Festival in Lublin remains permanently on view in the city. Natalia Bak's artistic practice explores the relationship between memory, tradition, nature, and everyday life, examining how these elements contribute to both personal and collective identity. Drawing from childhood memories, family histories, and Ukrainian cultural heritage, her work creates a dialogue between past and present. Ordinary objects and familiar domestic environments frequently become central motifs through which she reflects on belonging, home, and cultural continuity. Her practice is grounded in the belief that everyday moments and seemingly ordinary objects can carry profound emotional and cultural significance. Natalia's recent project, The Stories Beneath Our Feet, focuses on carpets as symbols of home, memory, and family life. Inspired by her childhood and later experience of migration, the series transforms familiar domestic objects into visual records of personal history. Painted at a 1:1 scale, the works preserve memories associated with comfort, safety, and belonging, while reflecting on the role everyday objects play in shaping our understanding of identity and place.
