Niina Villanueva (b. 1984) is a Finnish visual artist living and working in Finland. Holding a Master of Arts in Painting from the University of the Arts Helsinki, her practice spans painting and sculpture, exploring notions of intuitive space, rhythm, and colour through layered abstract compositions developed from raw pigments. Drawing from art historical conceptions of the landscape as an ordered and geometric structure, Villanueva creates works in which forms gradually fragment to reveal organic, vegetal, and animal presences. Her paintings open spaces where anthropocentric narratives recede in favour of realities in constant transformation, where dissolution, mutation, and regeneration coexist. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Turku Arts Academy and studied at the Nordic Art School. Her works are included in the collections of the Finnish National Gallery, the EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art through the Saastamoinen Foundation, the Finnish Art Society, and the HUS Art Collection. In 2022, she received the William Thuring Award from the Finnish Art Society and has participated in several artist residencies in Italy and Germany.
