In 1979 Chris Hopkins graduated with honors from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. After graduating, he was offered a job at Willardson & White, a new innovative art Studio in Hollywood, California. He established the Chris Hopkins’ Illustration Studio in 1984 and became one of the most sought after illustrators in the country. He worked for nearly all of the major motion picture companies painting artwork for numerous films including Lucas Films blockbusters “Indiana Jones And the Temple of Doom” and the original “Return of the Jedi.” He distinguished himself with numerous awards and honors from the art and entertainment communities including gold and silver medals from the Society of Illustrators. He was a Grammy Award finalist in the album package design category for his artwork on the album Styx Paradise Theater. In 2003 he was honored with the Vargas Life Achievement Award. His work is in both private and public collections such as Library of Congress, the White House where he had art presented during the Reagan, and George H.W. Bush administrations, and most recently a commission from the Obama administration. He also has work in the Pentagon and NFL properties where he painted the theme art for Super Bowls XX, XXI, and XXIII. In 1988, Chris made a life-changing decision to move out of the Los Angeles area back to the Pacific Northwest to raise his family. Far from the world of entertainment and advertising, he continued his illustration career, but was given a new opportunity as a commissioned artist, painting narrative fine art. His new work included commissions of portraits, landscapes and current and historical subjects.
After over 30 years as a professional artist, Chris Hopkins continues a diverse career in art creating heartfelt paintings of the human experience both past and current. His love and passion for art has contributed to a lifelong successful career.
