Josh Brown: Mastering Nuance and Contemporary Wildlife Art Josh Brown is a renowned fine artist based in New York City, known for his evocative depictions of animals and minimalist style. His artwork swiftly captures the mood of his subjects, bringing their personalities to life with graphic precision. Utilizing sculptural brush strokes and a refined palette knife technique, Josh’s pieces exude energy, joy, and subtle movement. His work is designed to inspire curiosity, goodwill, and humor in both art and life. A Commitment to Community through Art Josh’s dedication to art extends beyond his studio. Over the years, he has used his talents to support various charitable causes, raising funds for numerous groups, including battered women shelters, animal rights organizations, children's hospitals, and local food venues. His commitment to using art for community betterment showcases his generous spirit and belief in the transformative power of creativity. From Student-Athlete to Acclaimed Artist Before pursuing a career in fine art, Josh was a full scholarship student-athlete and captain of the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) soccer team. He earned NAIA Academic All-American honors for three consecutive years and graduated Summa Cum Laude in Industrial Design in Spring 2015. Balancing his studies and sports, Josh devoted his free time to painting and sculpting. He also explored his love for fashion, working as a model for photography and runway, with coaching by Mrs. J. Alexander for the SCAD annual runway show. Artistic Recognition and Exhibitions Josh’s work has garnered significant attention, featured on numerous blogs, magazines, and trend-hunting sites. His paintings and sculptures are exhibited in prestigious galleries, including Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC; Michael Mitchell Gallery in Charleston, SC; Lagerquist Gallery in Atlanta, GA; and Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. 2024: A Year of Exploration and Inspiration “I'm very excited by how 2024 has been going. This year has been full of exploration in the studio as well as several enlightening trips abroad. Like most years, I am inspired by the connection we can make with the subject in a painted image, the joy that can be shared between viewer and art. I also look forward to experimenting with color, texture, and new compositions. Every day is a blessing, and the most profoundly inspiring moments seem to strike out of the blue! So, I will continue to follow my heart and paint with the love my works continue to share!” Evolving Artistic Process “My process is constantly evolving. I try not to force anything and let the change come to me. Lately, I've been simplifying my brushwork, letting the paint ‘talk.’ It's remarkable how honest and approachable a simple brushstroke can be. This approach is only possible after many thousands of hours of practice, and I'm very happy to see my artistic process developing.” Embracing New Themes and Techniques “I'm excited to try a variety of color compositions this year. My process is experimental and intuitive, so I don't always know how things will turn out until I'm in the thick of painting. As far as themes or trends are concerned, I want to push the work's ability to connect to its viewer and explore patterns and larger groups of animals together. In some ways, I have an idea of what I would like to paint this year, and then there are moments when I wake up and create something completely unplanned. It's the exciting prospect of creating art!” Inspiration from New York City Living and working in New York City is a significant source of inspiration for Josh. “I live in New York City and love it! It is such an inspiring space to live and work. There are so many creative and driven individuals in this city that I have a hard time not finding inspiration. I think what inspires me the most here is the diversity of people and ideas. Living in this city forces one to examine a plethora of ideas they may have never considered before. It's such a blessing to share this space with a diversity of cultures found nowhere else in the world.” A Perfect Day in the Life of Josh Brown “My perfect day certainly involves creating art. I also love to start the day with a great espresso and have the opportunity to get outside and explore my city with a run or bike ride. My day would not be complete without spending a great deal of time with my incredible wife and our dog. Aside from that, I am very happy to live this dream every day. We aren't all fortunate enough to follow our passions. I am well aware of that fact and approach every day as if it's the perfect day, filled with opportunity and gratitude.” Josh Brown’s work continues to inspire and captivate, inviting viewers to live curiously and joyfully through the lens of his art. His dedication to both his craft and community showcases the profound impact art can have on the world. GALLERY REPRESENTATION 2011 — Present Shain Gallery; Charlotte, NC2016 — Present Studio E Gallery; Palm Beach Gardens, FL2021 — Present Anne Irwin Fine Art; Atlanta, GA 2021 — Present Merritt Gallery & Renaissance Fine Art; Baltimore, MD2022 — Present Aerena Galleries & Gardens; Napa, CA2022 — Present Grogan Gallery; Houston, TX2016 — 2018 Lagerguist Gallery; Atlanta, GA2013 — 2018 Michael Mitchell Gallery, Charleston, SC2012 — 2014 Matre Gallery; Atlanta, GA SELECTED SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2022 Solo Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC2021 Solo Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC2020 Solo Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC2017 Solo Exhibition - Studio E Gallery - Palm Beach Gardens, FL2015 Solo Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC2015 Solo Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC2013 Solo Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC SELECTED GROUP EXHIBITIONS 2015 Small Works Exhibition - Michael Mitchell Gallery Charleston, SC2015 East Bay Flagship Space Dual Show - Charleston, SC2015 Southeastern Wildlife Expo - Charleston, SC2015 Spoleto Festival - Charleston, SC2013 Group Exhibition - Matre Gallery - Atlanta, GA2013 Small Works Exhibition - Matre Gallery - Atlanta, GA2013 Small Works Exhibition - Michael Mitchell Gallery – Charleston, SC2012 Group Exhibition - Shain Gallery - Charlotte, NC CHARITY AND FUNDRAISING CONTRIBUTIONS 2015 Donation - Levine Children’s Hospital - Charlotte, NC2015 Fundraiser Contribution - Foundation for Tomorrow – Charlotte, NC2015 Fundraiser Contribution - Art Unleashed Charlotte, NC2015 Donation - Levine Children’ s Hospital Charlotte, NC2015 Fundraiser Contribution - Shelter of Gastonia - Gastonia, NC2015 Fundraiser Contribution - Haygood/ Grady Memorial – Charleston, SC2014 Fundraising Contribution - Atlanta Speech School
