Xavier Amiama was born in 1910 in St-Domingue, Dominican Republic; he died in 1969. He had several one-man shows in the Dominican Republic before arriving in Port-au-Prince in 1935, where he began to teach painting. He was the force that encouraged Petion Savain to enter the World's Fair Exhibit five years before the opening of the Centre d'Art in 1944. He died in Haiti in 1969.
