Grace was born in Italy and raised in Canada in Southern Ontario near Toronto and studied art in California. Growing up she was very inspired by the ‘Group of Seven’ landscape painters from the 20’s and 30’s whose landscapes were definitive and almost perfect. She started painting landscapes but soon felt there was little left to say in that traditional genre and so, as her artistic sensibilities developed, she began adding different materials, wax and oils, Grace moved gradually into abstraction in an effort to say something new, experimenting with latex paint in layers which enabled her to add a more visceral and surprising element, at the same time working markings and designs with depth and history into the canvas. Continually looking for new parameters Grace likes to experiment with new materials that exude peace and a sense of random structure. Grace and her family now spend half the year in Canada and the winters in Palm Desert California.
