Anatole Charles was born in Jacmel in 1922 and died in 1979. After elementary school, he became an engraver. 1940, under Marcel St. Vil, he studied painting and did both engraving and painting until discontinuing the latter in 1950 for two years. In 1952, he resumed painting again. He is the father of nine children." (Haiti Voodoo Kingdom to Modern Riviera by John Allen Franciscus. pp52).
