Raymond Dorleans was born on April 2, 1947, in Hinche near the remote eastern border of Haiti. He left Dumarsais Estime High School after his third year to move to Port-au-Prince in 1966. He began painting in 1969 with Edgard Brierre, the Brother of Murat Brierre and had his first exhibition in 1973. Dark, blue-green landscapes with bright figures characterize his work. “A landscape artist, Dorleans is a master of airy perspectives” (Peintres Haitiens by Gerald Alexis). Many private art collectors own his work, as well as art galleries and museums.Dorleans passed away in the year 2000.
