Nehemy Jean was born in 1931 and passed away in 2007. He received a well-rounded education at the Teacher Training School, Beaubrun Ardouin College, and Lycée Alexandre Pétion. In 1947, he joined the Centre d'Art under the guidance of Dieudonné Cédor. He became one of the founding members of the Foyer des Arts Plastiques Gallery, which saw fifty members secede from the Centre d'Art in 1950.Jean honed his painting techniques with V. Pierre-Noël and Georges Ramponeau, and improved his portrait skills under R. Brackman and B. Klonis in New York City. Upon his return to Haiti, he helped establish the Brochette Art Gallery and later founded L'Atelier Gallery. He painted scenes at the airport in Haiti, as well as at the El Rancho and Choucoune Hotels. Throughout his career, he exhibited his work in the U.S., Europe, and Suriname, and his art is featured in many private collections.
