Hervé Lebreton (1941–2026) was a Haitian-born painter who later lived and worked in Canada, known for his neo-surrealist, dreamlike imagery. He began studying fine art at a young age and continued his training at the School of Arts in Port-au-Prince, the ABC School in Paris, and Bellas Artes in Santiago, Chile. Lebreton developed a distinctive visual language characterized by poetic, imaginative compositions and technical precision. His work is often described as neo-surrealist, combining idyllic scenes with symbolic and fantastical elements. As art historian Gérald Alexis noted in Peintres Haïtiens, Lebreton created “dream-like images with undeniable virtuosity.” His paintings have been exhibited internationally and are held in major collections, including museums in Santo Domingo, Montreal, Shreveport, and Haiti. Today, Hervé Lebreton is recognized as an important figure in modern Haitian art, with works sought after by collectors worldwide.
