Self-taught Haitian artist, Frantz Mosanto, came to Port-au-Prince when he was twelve and started drawing and sculpting. At 18, Mosanto began to paint on canvas. He was significantly affected by the devastation of Haiti's landscape. He dreamed of a new Haiti where people would stop cutting the trees and start planting them. His paintings depict lush mountains, towering trees, and clear-running rivers, embodying his dreams for a revitalized Haiti. He has participated in many exhibitions in the US and Europe. His art is named in many Haitian art books. " A landscape artist, Mosanto takes considerable pains in depicting details and perspective" (Gérald Alexis, Peintres Haitiens, 2000)
