Dieudonné Rouanez, born on May 21, 1920, in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, established himself as a significant figure in the art world. He began his artistic journey independently before honing his skills under the guidance of the esteemed Voodoo artist Gérard Valcin at the Centre d’Art. Rouanez is widely recognized for his powerful and distinctive style, which vividly conveys Vodou themes through vibrant colors that captivate viewers. As Gérald Alexis astutely notes in his book "Peintres Haïtiens," "Reduced to the two-dimensionality of the painted surface, Rouanez's subjects find their strength in the rhythmic structure."
