John Lonergan has lived and breathed art for over 50 years. John knew from an early age that he wanted to pursue a career in the arts and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama in 1964 and ten years later his Masters degree from the University of Alabama in Education Administration.Combining his love for art and teaching, he taught art to high school students for 25 years at Pell City High School, all the while perfecting his own style of painting and pottery.In 1968 he began to exhibit his pottery and paintings at Littlehouse Galleries in Homewood, Alabama. In the past 20 years, John has won numerous awards for his paintings and pottery and holds top honors with the 1998 Founders Favorite Award for Arts for the Parks in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Arts for the Parks is a collection of paintings published in book form by celebrated artists and their paintings of outdoor scenes of North American National Parks.Mr. Lonergan has been published in the Arts for the Parks 1988, 1990, 1991 and 1995 editions. He is acclaimed as both a teacher and an artist, which is evident when you visit one of his packed classes of committed students. His own work, full of depth and universal appeal will pique your senses with his use of color, setting and light.
