Born on June 5, 1950, Arcade Latour discovered inks from an early age and held his first exhibition in 1965. His passion for communication and creative expression led him to graphic arts, technical design, and publishing. In 1984, he was selected to design the Popemobile for Pope John Paul II's visit to Canada. In this digital age and era of virtual reality, artist Arcade Latour offers intriguing works of intense colour created through the use of the age-old medium that is printer’s ink. Latour discovered this medium and its potential while still a teenager. Fascinated by the intensity of this colours and the density of its texture, he made it his mission to explore and master its possibilities. An accomplished graphic artist, Arcade Latour lays on canvas an entire universe of forms and colours that eventually gain a raised texture and relief. His paintings, initially perceived as a comprehensive and captivating ensemble, soon reveal projections and ledges that unveil fascinating details. Arcade Latour probably fell into a cauldron of the stuff when he was a little boy. Indeed, it was among the discarded inks of a neighborhood print shop that, as a youngster, he discovered a new, magical medium offering vibrant colours and thick, malleable textures. Thus, on cardboard brought back by his father from the menswear store where he worked, the young Arcade started experimenting with ink. He was at once fascinated by the wondrous forms and colours that his deft fingers were able to coax from this unexpected medium. From then on, ink was not to leave Arcade Latour’s existence.Looking for a reliable supplier for his unique paintings, Arcade Latour naturally gravitated toward Hostmann Steinberg, a well-known printing ink company. From his first meeting with the regional manager for eastern Canada, a special partnership emerged; Michel Aubry is himself an art connoisseur who was immediately enthralled with what the artist succeeded in committing to canvas. Known the world over for the quality of its products, Hostmann Steinberg is present around the globe.Mindful of its environmental footprint, the Montreal plant has developed over the years an ink recycling program. It is from the ink yielded through this program that Mr. Latour finds the inks that he uses in his paintings.
