Andy Braitman was born is Casper Wyoming, in 1950 and was raised in Bethesda, Maryland. As a student at the University of Maryland in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s he discovered the culture of rock & roll, modern dance, and painting. After graduating from college, Braitman primarily survived through efforts in the studio until he was hired as a Visiting Artist in Prince Georges County. Maryland. In his early painting years, he was primarily a non-representational painter. Most of his exposure and acceptance in the art community came because of his work as an abstract painter. In 1988, Braitman was picked up by his first major gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina. Around the same time, he met the woman who would become his wife, and the catalyst for all my future success. By 1995, she, and her 3 boys, had drastically changed his life and painting style. He has been developing as a representational painter for the past 17 years and now is blending the first twenty years with the last twenty years of his painting life to develop his present voice and style.
Braitman’ experience in the out of doors, fishing, and hiking, combined with his strong childhood family, and his adult experience as a step-father, husband, and grandfather; along with more than 40 years of painting have all culminated in the exciting and unique work that he creates now. His hope is that the collectors of his work discover what he finds so passionately worthy of his life long pursuit.
