Jacques Gabriel (1934-1988) was a prominent artist born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He pursued his education in the United States before returning to Haiti, where he studied under the influential Roland Dorcely for a year. Gabriel then moved to Paris, where he discovered Surrealism and honed his skills in both figurative and abstract styles. His artwork is renowned for its distinctive use of perspective and striking contrasts. In 2002, a significant retrospective of his work was showcased at Le Musée d’Art Haïtien, solidifying his legacy in the art world.
