Richard Thomas Scott is a New Enlightenment Painter. A Georgia native, his work reconstructs enlightenment values abandoned by postmodernism and our subsequent post-truth era. Channeling a Baroque sensibility, Scott explores the complex tensions of American identity through the transcendental perspectives in Buddhist and Humanist philosophies. Known for his mastery of light and color, his portraits, interiors, and large scale compositions have exhibited across North America and Europe: Le Grand Palais in Paris, Palazzo Cini in Venice, Museu Europeu d'Art Modern in Barcelona, the Museum of New Art in Detroit, and are preserved in permanent collections worldwide such as the The New Britain Museum of American Art, the Georgia Museum of Art, MEAM, MACS, Musée Alice d'Étoiles, Adoro Museum Philippines, former British Arts Minister Alan Howarth of Newport, Philip Anschutz and Sea Island Resort, President Bill Clinton, Mack Wilbourn, and Robert C. Kennedy PhD. Among many honors he has received, Richard has designed coins and congressional medals for the United States Mint, including the 2016 Fort Moultrie quarter, won first place in the Portrait Society of Atlanta Fall 2023 expo, was selected for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Copyist program in 2006, and was honored as an Associate Living Master by the Art Renewal Center.Richard teaches at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has given lectures and workshops, most notably at the Tyler School of Art, The Florence Academy of Art, The University of Georgia, The Lyme Academy, Laguna College of Art and Design, and the Wethersfield Academy for the Arts.His interviews, writing, and art have been feature on NPR, PRI, and countless national and international books and publications.
