Fernand Pierre was born on July 1, 1919, in Carrefour, Haiti, and died in 2002. While employed as an engraver, Pierre began working in clay, fashioning little dogs and selling them. In 1947, he heard of the Art Center and traded a few of his clay dogs for some plaster. Then, he asked for hardboard and paint, set to work, and became a professional artist. Pierre has participated in several exhibitions in Haiti and the United States. One of his works is displayed at the Episcopal Church in Port-au-Prince. (Peinture Haitienne/ Haitian Arts by Marie-José Nadal & Gérald Bloncourt, Editions Nathan, 1986) “ With an innate feel for composition, Pierre celebrates nature and depicts it in all its bounty.” (Peintres Haitiens by Gérald Alexis, Editions Cercle d’Art, 2000)
