Born in Nova Scotia, Sara MacCulloch studied painting at Concordia University in Montreal before receiving a BFA and MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her paintings capture the rocky coast, fields, and vast sky that surrounds her Nova Scotia studio. Executed in a spontaneous, painterly style, her work vacillates between abstraction and realism. She utilizes broad, fluid brush strokes, simplified forms, and a reduced palette to capture the meditative color and atmospheric light that characterize her surroundings.
