Jeremy Guy was born in the 60's in a small town in West Yorkshire, England. As a child growing up in mining country he found himself drawn towards abstract expressionism, finding the works of artists such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth both inspiring and liberating. Reflecting on his childhood Jeremy recollects "Maybe it was the juxtaposition of beautiful countryside with urban drabness and pragmatic attitudes which motivated myself and so many other artists to bring beauty and meaning into our daily lives? Our surroundings, without doubt, shape how we feel, how we think and how we act. Sometimes it is the artist's job to create something new, and sometimes it is to show us what is already there". The natural environment and especially time spent on, or near, water have had a significant influence on his work. " In my own abstract work I am acutely aware that nature champions great design. From the shaping of a beach pebble through years of tidal and elemental erosion to the myriad forms found in biology, I am often awestruck. My work conveys a sense of balance and peace as I strive to seek a seemingly impossible equilibrium between the simple elegance and dynamic complexity of the world in which we live" Educated in Fine Art and holding an honours degree in Product Design, J. has been a full-time sculptor for approximately 20 years. His works can be found in public spaces and private collections in many countries across three continents.
