Artist Statement I began using a camera for its obvious function - to capture those everyday moments in life. I'm never without my camera and there is always an endless source of inspiration in my home city of Toronto. I don't set out to produce art about one subject or another; I use the ‘everyday’ as the foundation of my work. I start with a photograph that then evolves through the layering of various mixed media elements. The result is a composition in which mood is the primary subject. My work is a synthesis of my personal feelings, the subject matter, an evolving use of material and techniques, and the lighting and colours that inspire me. Bio Morgan Jones is a mixed media artist, living and working in Toronto, Ontario. Jones has been working with mixed media for the better part of two decades and has been part of the artist collective at Walnut Studios since October 2012. Self-described as an artist driven by casual observation of the people and life around him. The themes of his artwork are inspired by urban and rural landscapes, capturing the common, every day visual moments of life through his photographs. Applying the additional layering of mixed media and resin on large format photographs and artist board, his images take on entirely new meaning and depth. A self-taught artist, Jones is constantly evolving, guided by his tendency toward patience, observation, perseverance and, quite simply – effort. His philosophy embraces 'trial and error' which he believes are wonderful teachers. Continually looking to incorporate new ideas and mediums, Jones follows a multi-step process when creating his art. His techniques include sanding and staining, antiquing, the addition of collage and hidden messages, embossing and finally splashes of acrylic paint. With a keen eye for texture, design and composition, coupled with a whimsical flare, Jones creates works that are aesthetically engaging while also evoking an emotional response in the viewer.
