Norma Penchansky Glasser freezes the transitory moments and the subtle variations in position and movement that the figure in dance finds in rehearsal and performance. She portrays the motion of the figure and captures stress, strain, and relaxation. Her work often shows the figure at the point of no return, that moment when the viewer believes they may fall. PROCESS Ms. Glasser uses a lost-wax process for her bronze sculptures. She is involved in every step of the process starting with creating the sketch and sculpting the clay. She creates the molds, works the wax positive, burnishes the patina, and designs the base upon which the sculpture resides. With the exception of commissions, each mold is used to provide an edition of 7 pieces, after which the mold is broken and discarded.
