Christopher Dotson has spent most of his life near the ocean, and as an avid scuba diver, has spent thousands of hours diving throughout the Caribbean. This was facilitated, in part, by nine years spent in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard two different ships. This time in the ocean realm has given him a unique perspective on life in the deep. His paintings are informed by memories, dreams, and personal beliefs about the common thread that connects all living things. Working by intuition and instinct, he begins a painting without knowing the outcome. The image reveals itself within its own time. The result is something that is organic, spontaneous, mysterious, and nuanced with layers of meaning. “I work because I only have notions of things. I build the things that I can't say with words.” - CD
