My early paintings were created on site, easel in front of the landscape, or before a still life. These days, much of my work is semi-abstract and composed in my studio. I apply the oil paint thinly, laying down washes of color, and use rags to wipe, remove, and revise. Although the actual painting is done in the studio, I continue to reference nature. Walking the wetlands and open spaces that surround my home studio, I explore and observe. I paint from a place of emotion, memory, and invention to create the image and feel of the land before me.
