Donna Walker’s paintings celebrate the rural landscape and coastal scenes, interpreted in her own way with simplified shapes, abstractions, and unique color. She grew up surrounded by country homesteads in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and now lives and works in Texas.Donna is inspired by large stretches of land, sea, and wide open skies, ranches, farms, and unique structures. She enjoys painting scenes from her memories and travels, capturing what defines a place, a home, a dwelling… Her work is colorful and unique with bold, thick texture and shapes created with palette knives.“Living near farms and ranches has made me aware of the simple beauty of the land juxtaposed with weathered and unique structures. I appreciate the enduring qualities of craft, hard work, and simplicity.Creating a simplified composition is a balancing act; my goal is to remove what is not needed, leaving only the few elements that create a harmonious painting.” Donna grew up drawing and painting. She has earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, where she studied painting and printmaking. After college, she worked for years as an assistant art conservator, often on large mural projects.
